Review: MSE – Materials Science and Engineering Congress 2016

The scientific congress, which took place from September 27 – 29, 2016 at the Darmstadt University of Technology, was opened by the DGM chairman Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Hirsch, Hydro Aluminium Rolled Products, Prof. Dr. Oliver Kraft, Vice President of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and past president of the Materials Research Society (MRS).

With 590 lectures, 240 posters, numerous international plenary lectures and an almost summerlike temperature,  the MSE congress was again a great success. The comprehensive program allowed an ample opportunity for networking and exchange to more than 1,300 participants from over 50 countries. In particular, the USA-Germany Networking Symposium in frame of the cooperation between the DGM and USA with the MRS (Materials Research Society) and TMS (The Minerals, Metals and Materials Society), organized by the Jung-DGMs and the MRS-Chapters resulted in an excellent networking with the guest country USA.

Furthermore, the MSE side-events, such as the BBQ food truck during the basketball game with two professional players of the FRAPORT SKYLINERS, as well as the Bull Riding contributed to an all-American atmosphere with amusement and networking.

Young materials scientists were brought together with companies through the MSE technical and the recruiting exhibition, where they could inform themselves about career opportunities in the field of materials science and engineering in Germany and abroad.

The positive feedback given by participants, invited experts and exhibitors has once again confirmed the concept of the MSE. The suggestions leads us, as DGM, to further develop the concept with and for our community.

Since the MSE 2018 will be in cooperation with Argentina as guest country, we are looking forward to welcome you and the numerous Argentineans to the next MSE 2018 taking place yet again in Darmstadt.
