Downsizing of mechanical components and the application of novel, greener lubricants as a means to improve energy efficiency and to meet the strict environmental regulations in mechanical machines and manufacturing processes comes with the danger of reducing the wear life of sliding surfaces. New materials and coatings must therefore withstand harsher tribological conditions and at the same time provide lower friction than ever. This leaves no room for trial-and-error solutions and requires a deep undding of the underlying microscopic mechanisms in the tribological contact.
The 2017 Friction, Wear and Wear protection symposium focuses on the latest developments in materials and coatings development for ultra-low friction and wear, as well as friction materials, polymers and PMC’s. Since 2008, it is held every three year under the auspices of the technical committee „Materials aspects of tribology and machining“ of the German materials society, DGM.
The Keynote Speakers for the international Symposium:
- Dr. Volker Weihnacht, Fraunhofer Institute for Material and Beam Technology IWS Dresden
the amazing tribology of hydrogen-free amorphous carbon coatings
- Prof. Alfons Fischer, University of Duisburg-Essen
Fretting in artifical joints
- Dr. Lars Pastewka, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology
Contact area and adhesion of rough spheres
The exhibition will be held in conjunction with the conference. Coffee breaks, lunch and poster sessions will be held in the exhibition area. More informations for sponsors and exhibitors here.
Looking forward to seeing you in Ettlingen,
