Almost 200 participants from all over the world joined the three days of the conference with a total of 7 plenary lectures, 116 lectures, 26 posters, and 5 oral poster presentations.
Subsequently, the sessions of the eight topics: Processing, Additive Manufacturing, Applications, Alloy Development, Hybrid Materials and Multi-material Design, Computations materials design and a special symposium of the "European Conference on Aluminium Alloys (ECAA)" started. The extensive breaks were used for networking, discussions on the poster walls or for discussions with the exhibitors of AGENT-3D, analyticon instruments GmbH, EcoMaT, MATPLUS GmbH or Thermo-Calc Software AB.
On Thursday afternoon an oral poster session honored the 5 outstanding poster contributions in short presentations. Afterwards, the following three questions were discussed in a small discussion group led by Prof. Dr. Christoph Leyens from the Technische Universität Dresden, in a World-Café:
- Metals versus hybrid materials: your experience from the extended working environment
- Which manufacturing process drives innovations in lightweight construction?
- Is the promotion of research and application for lightweight construction sufficient?
In the evening, the social evening took place in the Ratskeller in Bremen, built in 1405. With drinks and an extensive buffet of local specialties, the participants exchanged ideas in a cosy atmosphere, and opened up new networks.
With a summary of the World-Café and the closing remarks to the conference by Prof. Dr. Jürgen Hirsch, part of the conference chairs, the LightMAT ended on Friday afternoon.
A small group of 20 participants visited the factory tour at Airbus in Bremen, which had already been booked out in advance and which gave an insight into the design of wings, landing flaps and control systems "made in Bremen".
The LightMAT 2017 would like to thank all participants, plenary speakers, lecturers, session leaders, exhibitors and supporters for three exciting and groundbreaking conference days.
